Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge And Friends Introduce New Citizen Science Project
Virginia Beach, VA –Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) and the Back Bay NWR Society (Society) introduce a new citizen science project at the wildlife refuge.
Chronolog is a program that creates time lapse videos using crowdsourced photos. Four Chronolog stations were recently installed at the refuge: at the Sunset Point Overlook platform, the end of the Dune Trail, the Wildlife Viewing Window and inside the impoundment complex. All of the sites but the impoundment complex are open to visitors throughout the year. Visitors are encouraged to stop at the Chronolog viewing stations, use the provided bracket to take a photo and send the photo to the email address indicated on the sign. Your photos will be added to the time lapse on a public-facing website and you will receive further information about the location once you submit the image.
The impoundment complex site will be managed by Refuge and Society staff and volunteers to provide a view into the management of the impoundments throughout the year. We look forward to sharing with visitors and the interested public!
Please visit www.backbaynwrsociety.org or www.facebook.com/backbaynwrsociety for more information about the Society and their free membership.
Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1938 as a refuge and sanctuary for migratory waterfowl and other wildlife. The Refuge, located just south of Sandbridge Beach in southeastern Virginia Beach, is open from dawn to dusk. More information can be found online at the Back Bay NWR official webpage, the official Facebook page or by calling the Refuge at (757)301-7329.
